Singer-Songwriter Jason Cerda, the new Chayanne?

Jason Cerda is breaking into the latin music industry with his single "Color Favorito"

Puerto Rican-Dominican singer, Jason Cerda, currently on tour promoting his new single Color Favorito, might just be the new Chayanne.

28-year-old Cerda, whose music is a fusion of Pop, R&B and Tropical sounds, says there hasn’t been a Latino pop star with singing and dancing skills matching those of Chayanne in a long time. However,  he credits his own music and dance talent as being inspired by none other than the king-of-pop; Michael Jackson.

“It was a combination of things, not just his dancing but how he was on the stage,” said Jason Cerda. “How [Michael Jackson] commanded the stage. I’ve never seen anybody do that and the energy that man brought. I try my best when I perform to bring that.”

The songwriter, whose first brush with fame came when his first single Al lado Mio reached a number 11 spot on Billboard’s Latin Rhythm Airplay chart, also confessed Color Favorito was inspired by an old fling.

Jason Cerda is a fun loving, latino singer songwriter.

“I wrote half the song about an experience that happened with a particular person a while ago but in general it’s about breaking up and being on the end of watching your ex move on with somebody else,” he said.

“It’s like ‘yeah, this guy might treat you great but he doesn’t know you like I do, he doesn’t know something as simple as your favorite color’.”

Color Favorito has already been widely played on radio stations nationwide and has placed in the Top 40 just four weeks after its release. Cerda’s public relations and management team and his self-started label, Cerda Entertainment, predict its rise to a Top 10 position within the next two weeks.

“It’s an honor for Billboard to name me that because there are so many artists out there trying to do exactly what I do, who are talented and amazing, and who just haven’t had their break yet,” he said.

“I’ve been lucky enough to have a good team around me, who supports me, and to have such great fans.”

The Washington D.C native is on tour now and will be performing Color Favorito in several cities across the U.S.
