Commissioner of the NBA, Adam Silver, delivered a swift and just punishment on Tuesday for reeling racist and Clippers owner Donald Sterling.
Silver made sure Sterling would never be able to influence the Clippers organization ever again, with a ban for life from all team activities as well as a 2.4 million dollar fine.
Silver even went as far as to make moves that he is not authorized to make, which is to gain three-quarters the vote of the other owners to permanently remove Donald Sterling as an owner.
Silver said that he was ‘personally outraged’ by the comments and that he “fully expects to get the support he needs from the owners” to force a sale of the Clippers.
The decision that was handed down by Silver drew immediate praise on twitter from the NBA community.
Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson tweeted, “Former and current NBA players are very happy and satisfied with Commissioner Silver’s ruling.”
In another tweet Johnson stated, “Now lets hope that the other 29 owners do the right thing”.
Former NBA player and mayor of Sacramento Kevin Johnson, who was chosen as the point person for the players union during the Sterling scandal had this to say about the verdict,
“I hope that every bigot in this country sees what happened to Mr. Sterling and recognizes that if he can fall, so can you.”
The rookie commissioner Silver stood up to the leagues longest running owner and kicked him out of the NBA – Forever.
