Make Up Must Haves: All about the Face edition

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been to Sephora or Ulta and had a sudden overwhelming feeling to buy everything because you simply must have it. That pore minimizing moisturizer, the 24-hour eyeliner, and that “oh, so gorgeous” ruby red lip stain. It’s true, you know it. Ladies, (and some gents) we’ve all been there. Now, I can’t sit here and tell you I’ve tried every single product in the store, because face it, that’s an impossible feat. However, I can tell you all the products that have worked well for me and my face.

First of all, I LOVE make up. I pretty much visit Sephora once a month because I need my fix. I always find a reason to go and end up spending an immeasurable amount of money on make up. It’s not always cheap, I’ll tell you that. But I will tell you that these products have been worth every penny for me. I’ve discovered brands that make me happy and others that are really not worth the hype, but overall it’s been a good time. So, without further ado, here are my make up must haves: Face Edition (primer, foundation, concealer, powder etc.) for any season and any occasion!

I’ve discovered a few primers that are ideal for my skin type. I have mixed complexion with imperfections and big pores. Depending on how my face is doing that day, I decide on which primer to use. My three must have primers are:

Benefit Cosmetics | The POREfessional PRO balm

Works to minimize the appearance of pores and gives a flawless finish to your face while reducing shine. The POREfessional PRO balm has a silky consistency so you know you’re not applying harsh chemicals to your skin and helps your foundation last longer (especially on those nights out on the town!) Price: $42 (1.5 oz) | $31 (0.75 oz) | $10 (0.25 oz)

Smashbox | Photo Finish Foundation Primer (Light, Oil Free)

Smashbox’s Photo Finish Foundation Primer has a creamy texture so it feels more like a moisturizer with a light finish. It helps make-up stay on all day and doesn’t create excess oiliness or shine. Price: $36 (1 oz) | $15 (0.5 oz)

BECCA | Ever Matte Poreless Priming Perfector

The Ever Matte Poreless Priming Perfector  is more textured and really leaves your makeup on all day and into the night while controlling giant pores. It’s oil free so it has no pesky residue! Feels somewhat dry after application creating a matte finish and leaves skin feeling fresh and clean like there’s nothing on it! Price: $36 (1.35 oz)

As you can see, I’ve tried my fair share of primers.  You can only imagine how many I’ve tried to have narrowed it down to three. The best part is that you can try all of these products at your local Sephora or Ulta, in case you don’t want to take my word for it. Having the perfect primer is really one of the most important things in your make-up bag. Next, we’ll move on to my favorite concealer and powder!

First, you should know I have a lot of flaws on my face (like a lot of us do), so concealer is essential. From acne marks, to dark circles– you name it, I’ve got it. I’ve tried endless concealers and only one has ever worked this efficiently.

MAKE UP FOREVER | Full Cover Concealer

Make-up Forever’s Full cover concealer covers flawlessly and doesn’t feel cakey. IT’S WATERPROOF! (which in turn means, sweat proof). It’s perfect for spots and dark circles and provides ALL DAY coverage! The tube of concealer will last you MONTHS, so the money is well-spent in my eyes. There are SO MANY SHADES, you’re guaranteed one to match your complexion. Price: $32 (0.5 oz)

Laura Mercier | Mineral Foundation

Now, I don’t normally use foundation. I tend to just conceal and use mineral powder all over and it really covers up, providing the finish I desire. Laura Mercier’s Mineral Powder goes on loose, but covers extensively and assists the concealer. It has a light finish and SPF 15! It’s perfect if you’re in a hurry and don’t have time to apply foundation or concealer because it gives you an impeccable finish! Price: $39 (0.34 oz)

I use a lot of different blushes and bronzers on my face at the end of my routine just to create a nice glow. I haven’t found any that I’m horribly crazy about, but I do enjoy Naked by Urban Decay’s Flushed palette. It has a bronzer, blush AND highlighter that isn’t incredibly shiny. If you can’t tell already, I HATE SHINE. It’s $32 at Sephora and it has been the one that has stood out the most among the other ones I’ve tried.

The shade of blush is more pink than I usually like, but it goes on nicely and doesn’t over power the cheeks. The bronzer is perfect for adding in some tan without looking like you splurged on self tanner and the highlighter is just right to add in that extra glow to your face. I’m still looking for that blush and bronzer that I’m crazy about though, so stay tuned!

Are there any products you particularly enjoy? Have you tried any of these items and have different thoughts? What are YOUR must have products? Let us know in the comments section, we’d love to give them a try!

(Note: The pricing is based on Sephora pricing as that’s where I do most of my shopping for makeup, however these products can be found in many outlets.)
