DJ Deorro and everyone’s favorite merenguero Elvis Crespo are at it again with yet another hot merengue-EDM collaboration. Just two years after their huge club banger ‘Bailar’ , the two latinos join forces once again for their new single, ‘Pica’ which also features EDM DJ Henry Fong.
The trio is set to release their new single, ‘Pica’ days before the 34th annual Winter Music Conference in Miami- the biggest EDM Music Festival.
‘Pica’, his second collaboration with Crespo, “was a dream come true” for the DJ, Deorro said.
“I wanted to make something that I knew Elvis, the king of that Genre (Merengue), was going to accept,” he said. “And not only did he accept it, he told me ‘that composition right there is merengue’ and deep inside of me, I was having a graduation party.”
DID YOU KNOW?? ‘Pica’ means ‘an itch’.
Despite not having any experience with Merengue, Deorro, taught himself all the fundamentals of the genre. He confessed to using a headband to simulate an instrument he didn’t have while recording ‘Pica’.
“If I don’t have an instrument that I need, I look for things around my house that I can use,” he said. “And that day my headband worked.”
Press Pass Latino reporter Jaclyn Diaz caught up with Deorro for a candid hotel rooftop chat during Winter Music Conference Week in Miami. Deorro spilled the tea on his new single ‘Pica’, his inspiration for bridging his latin roots with EDM and who his hero is.
