Spanish singer David Cava captivates Miami with the “Pasito Tras”
Music was always a part of Spanish Tropical Urbano singer David Cava’s life.
The 25-year-old Barcelona native, says he is the only one in his family with a musical inclination, however, he does remember his mother listening to latin songs by Chayanne and Ricky Martin when he was a child.

His first instrument was the piano, and as a teenager, he ventured deeper into music by starting a Pop-rock band called “Venga Ya.” Music continued to be a part of his career to this day. Even now, while living in London he DJ’s at various nightclubs in the city.
“All I wanted to do was make music people could have fun to,” he said. “When I go out I want to listen to something I can dance to.”
Cava’s latest musical venture is a song called “El Tras,” which interestingly enough was written in 20 minutes – well, the first version was. Cava recalls how he spontaneously thought of it, while proving that to him inspiration can come from unexpected places.
“In my bathroom, I used to have a window, so while taking a shower I look out the window, and I saw a couple making love. Immediately, I came up with the ‘TRAS, TRAS, TRAS’ part. Why? [It’s] up to your imagination,” said Cava.
“And the rest is basically inspired by the girlfriend of a friend of mine,” he added, crediting his piano teacher for encouraging him to experiment with a latin music.
“The process is different for every artist, and after that the song came out very quickly. The first version came out shortly after I got out of the shower.”

His first shot at a song with a latin rhythm was El Tras, a tune and beat that was born “organically” and that brought him to Miami for a promo tour, he said.
One thing has made El Tras especially popular: ‘El Pasito’ [The Step], a dance move made up by Cava to accompany the song’s chorus.
As his career in Urban and Latin music takes off, Cava looks up to one Spanish artist in particular, the leading Spaniard influence in Urban music, Enrique Iglesias. He also aspires to one day perform with J Balvin and Daddy Yankee.
