Beauty Must Haves: Eyes and Lips Edition

The Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette is a make up must have.

It helps to know exactly what you’re looking for when you enter a beauty store like Sephora or Ulta, because if you don’t, it can be a tad overwhelming.

That’s why I like to do my research before I buy any beauty product. Reading reviews is one of the most important things to me whenever I have my eye on specific beauty products.

I want to know how it wears, how long it lasts and what I’ll look like at the end of a night out. Several times I’ve visited said beauty stores and get reeled into a new product, just by walking around and talking to the store’s beauty consultants.

These encounters have led me to create my own list of beauty must haves! From eye shadow, to lipstick and contouring palettes. It’s all here:

It would be inaccurate for me to say I usually go for the natural look, because I actually never do. I’m a big fan of smoky eyes and bold colors, but that’s not to say I don’t sometimes go for the natural look.

I mean, you can’t rock a smoky eye for a summertime baby shower at 11 a.m. However, this Urban Decay palette is a godsend. I can get the natural look if I want as well as a bolder look with just the right amount of eye shadow.

Urban Decay tends to have highly pigmented shadows. This is also to be said about the Electric Palette which is severely permanent and requires quite a bit of makeup remover to take it off at the end of the night.

I like to use Skimp to highlight under my eyebrow since it has a bit of a shimmer. Frisk and Primal together make a perfect blend for a natural look that works for any occasion. Undone is great for the smoky eye I was going on about. If you want it darker, just add more. It’s that simple!

This Urban Decay palette should be part of every beauty lover’s makeup bag!

If you want your eye lashes to really stand out, this is a beauty product you definitely want and NEED in your life.

As someone who has super straight eyelashes and squinty eyes, I know it’s hard to find the right mascara; the one that will make your eyes truly pop. I’m generally a fan of Benefit Cosmetics, I trust their beauty products will work, but I don’t use many of their products except for the POREfessional primer and their ‘They’re Real’ mascara.

I especially love the ‘They’re Real’ mascara which is appropriately named because your eye lashes look so fly that they look fake!

What really makes this mascara stand out is the bristles on the brush. Some mascaras tend to clump after just a few uses, and that’s usually because the bristles are soft. Firm bristles allow for better brushing and manipulation of the eye lashes plus the mascara doesn’t clump!

Tip: You can sometimes get a free sample of this product if you accumulate 100 beauty points as a Sephora VIP member.

Now, I’ve noticed that a lot of people have a tendency to avoid Sephora brand beauty products. Let me tell you, it’s a huge mistake. Especially if you’re a fan of lipstick. When I discovered Sephora’s Cream Lip Stain Collection about three years ago, I felt like I discovered gold. The collection has 15 shades ranging from pink to coral to ruby-red, which also happens to be my favorite. They also have this amazing shade called Polished Purple that also looks blue when you put it on– gorgeous!

I’m not the biggest fan of glossy lipstick, because I feel like it doesn’t provide lip color for very long, therefore, I don’t like it. However, if you’re into glossy lipstick, please skip this section as these stains go on matte and last HOURS with no re-application. These lip stains are my favorite find thus far. My favorite shades are Always Red, Marvelous Mauve and Polished Purple, but if I’m being honest, I have more than half of the collection. Best part? The stains won’t break the bank at only $14.00 a pop.

eyeliner

My favorite eye liner of all time is Stila’s All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. I know, some get a little spooked when they see the word ‘waterproof’ but I promise it’s your best bet for that cat eye look. The trick to getting a good cat eye is to do the line in small strokes and of course, don’t blink! These eyeliners are very sensitive and the tip is so thin, you won’t even notice how close it actually is to your skin.

Lesson: Any little wrong movement could mess it all up, so be very careful!

This eyeliner will last all day and all night. It’s not one of those products that’s advertised as long-lasting, but doesn’t actually last long at all. I promise you, when you put it on, you will not be able to just wipe it clean with soap and water. If you want something that really lasts, this is it.

Living in Miami, we have to deal with sweat and rain and basically loads of humidity. It’s hard to find products that can last through those conditions. All in all, it’s important for you to find the beauty products that YOU like and that work for you. If these products seem like something you’ve been looking for, but didn’t quite know where to find, I’m happy to help.

What beauty products are in your make-up bag that you absolutely can’t live without?
